A father, a son, and Ruth — who you’ll meet first.

Nigel started NBR Mobility in 2001. His son Jonathan joined in 2017, and Nigel’s partner Ruth runs the office. When people say family-run they often mean it loosely. We mean the three of us are here, most days, and one of us will be the person you deal with.

Who you’ll deal with

Three people. Not a department.

You will not be passed around, and you will not explain your situation twice.

Nigel
Founder

Started the business in 2001 and is still here most days. Twenty-five years of knowing which machine suits which person, and being willing to say when the answer is none of them.

Ruth
Office manager

Nigel’s partner, and almost certainly the first person you’ll meet when you walk in. She keeps the diary, the paperwork and the rest of us in order, and she remembers your name.

Vehicle adaptations

Nigel’s son. Joined in 2017 and now runs the adaptations side — hoists, swivel seats, hand controls. If you’ve asked whether something will fit your car, you’ve spoken to Jonathan.

How we got here

Twenty-five years, one town.

We have never opened a second branch or taken outside investment. Everything we have built has come from people in Norfolk and Suffolk telling someone else about us.

2001
Nigel opens the doors
One unit in Diss, a van, and a belief that people buying mobility equipment deserve to be listened to first and sold to second.
2017
Jonathan joins his father
Vehicle adaptations become a proper part of the business — the specialist work that keeps people driving, not just moving.

The workshop grows up
Our own engineers, servicing and repairing every make we can get parts for, whether we sold it or not.

Motability’s largest collection agent
Over 200 units a month pass through our hands — the reason we can find someone a used machine when nobody else can.
Why you can trust the advice

Accredited by the Department for Transport.

We are accredited by the DfT to assess and advise on mobility scooters and powerchairs. It means the guidance you get here has been independently judged — including the guidance to wait, or to buy nothing at all.

Our other business

Why used stock has its own website.

Hundreds of machines come back to us early from the Motability Scheme every year. The best of them are prepared and sold here, to the standard we put on our showroom floor. The rest are still good machines with life left in them — but they are not showroom standard, and we would rather say so than blur the line.

So those go to UsedMobility.uk, our sister site — same workshop, same warranty, same people on the phone, different promise about condition. You always know which one you are buying.

What people mean by “above and beyond”

It’s usually something small.

“Ruth rang the day after delivery just to check Mum had got on with it. Nobody asked her to do that.”

“Jonathan spent forty minutes measuring my car and then told me not to bother — the cheaper option would do. Who does that?”

“Nigel came out himself on a Saturday when my chair packed up. Twenty-five years in and he’s still doing callouts.”
