We sell equipment to people who have trouble getting about, so a website that’s awkward to use would be a poor advert for us. Here’s what we’ve done, what we know still isn’t right, and how to get hold of us if you hit something.
Every button and link is at least 44 by 44 pixels, and body text is never smaller than 16 pixels. Our customers are mostly older, so this was a rule from the start rather than a tidy-up at the end.
Everything works without a mouse, and whatever you’re on gets a clear blue outline so you can see where you are. We haven’t hidden that outline to make the design tidier.
If you’ve turned your text size up in Windows or on your phone, the pages reflow rather than overlap. Nothing is pinned to a fixed pixel height that would cut words off.
If your device is set to reduce motion, the video on the homepage doesn’t play. Nothing flashes, auto-scrolls or moves on its own.
Every product photograph has to carry a description before it can be published — the system rejects it otherwise, so it can’t be forgotten.
We write the way we talk. Where a technical term is unavoidable we explain it rather than assume, and measurements are given in the units people actually use.
This site is new and still being built. Saying so is more use to you than claiming it’s finished.
TO CONFIRM: Whether to state a WCAG conformance level. We should not claim 2.2 AA until someone has actually tested against it, including with a screen reader
142–144 Victoria Road has free parking directly outside and ramp access at the door, so there’s no step to negotiate. Everything on the floor is there to be tried.
If getting to us is the difficulty in the first place, don’t — we’ll come to you instead, free and across Norfolk and Suffolk.
How home visits work →If a page is hard to read, a button won’t work with your keyboard, or your screen reader makes a mess of something, ring us on 01379 651 600 and say so. You won’t be put through to a web department, because there isn’t one — you’ll get one of us, and we’ll get it fixed.
And if the website is the barrier, ignore it. The phone works, and so does the front door.
